  1. How does Global Telecom VoIP work?

    Quite simply, Global Telecom VoIP enables you to make phone calls over your Broadband Connection via a Global Telecom VoIP PC Phone or Phone Adapter. As a result, you enjoy amazing low call rates, fantastic call features, and the flexibility of having an extra phone line without the inconvenience of having a physical line installed.

  2. What is so special about Global Telecom VoIP?

    Global Telecom VoIP offers you a second phone line your home over your Broadband connection, plus a FREE phone number, FREE voicemail, FREE calls, and amazing FREE features.

  3. Do I have to have Broadband to use Global Telecom VoIP?

    It is recommended that you do, we suggest at least a 512k connection speed - some calls may work via a dial up connection but we cannot guarantee that they will be of good quality.

  4. I would like Global Telecom VoIP but I don't have Broadband yet, can you recommend a supplier?

    Yes, we can supplier and install a broadband line for you.

  5. Can I use my computer while I talk on the Global Telecom VoIP PC Phone or use the Phone Adapter?

    Yes you can, but be aware that any large uploads or downloads may effect the voice quality during the call and cause static on the line, interrupted speech, or time delays. Try to avoid large data transfers while on an active call.

  6. How can my Broadband usage affect call quality?

    A VoIP call requires constant bandwidth over the length of a call to ensure good quality. If, during a call, you upload or download large amounts of data this can affect voice quality in a number of ways, including time delays, static on the line, interrupted speech, and jitter. Try to avoid large data transfers while on an active call.

  7. Can I only make calls over the internet with Global Telecom VoIP?

    No, with Global Telecom VoIP you can make calls to local, national, mobile and international numbers, you will then be invoiced monthly for any calls made at the low rates you chose as part of your call plan.

  8. Can I travel with Global Telecom VoIP?

    Yes you can, Global Telecom VoIP will work anywhere you can find a good quality Broadband connection. This means that you can take your Global Telecom VoIP Phone Adapter, or a laptop with PC Phone, on your travels, then make and receive calls as if you are in the UK.

  9. If I move house can I take my Global Telecom VoIP service with me?

    Yes, as long as you have a Broadband connection in your new house your service will continue uninterrupted.

  10. How good is the line quality?

    The voice quality of the line is as good as a regular landline, and is generally better than mobile quality. If your Broadband connection is being used heavily at the same time as you're calling, this may have an effect on the quality of your call.

  11. Can I receive incoming calls using Global Telecom VoIP?

    Yes you can, Global Telecom VoIP will provide you with a free 0870 VoIP phone number which you can use to receive calls.

  12. Can I have more than one phone number on my Global Telecom VoIP line?

    Each line has its own 0870 VoIP number and has its own connection method and call plan. But we can connect more then one 0870 VoIP number to each line . There is a small monthly fee for each additional number. There is no limit to the amount of numbers you can choose.

  13. Do I need any equipment to use Global Telecom VoIP?

    If you want to use the Global Telecom VoIP PC Phone, you will need a sound card on your PC as well as an audio headset. If you want to use the Global Telecom VoIP Phone Adapter, then you will need to have an existing Broadband connection as well as an ADSL/Broadband Router.

  14. Do I have to live in one of the areas covered by the Global Telecom VoIP phone numbers to become a customer?

    No, that is one of the great things about Global Telecom VoIP, you have your own 0870 VoIP number

  15. Can I choose my Global Telecom VoIP phone number in full?

    No, the 0870 national rate VoIP number is supplied randomly, you can however select golden memorable numbers , these attract a one off connection fee and the number list is available upon request.

  16. What numbers can't I call with Global Telecom VoIP?

    You can't call 999 Emergency services, or Operator Services, from your Global Telecom VoIP line. Calls to 09 Premium Rate numbers are also barred on your Global Telecom VoIP line.

  17. Can I make Directory Enquiry calls with Global Telecom VoIP and how cheap are they?

    Global Telecom VoIP provides Directory Enquiries from Telco Global at the competitive rates below:

    • Telco National 118877 (5p per minute with connection charge of 30p)
    • Telco International 118840 (£1.50 per call)

  18. Can I block my phone number when making calls (Caller ID)?

    You cannot currently block your Global Telecom VoIP phone number when making calls.

  19. Will I always see the phone number of the person calling me on my Global Telecom VoIP line?

    Not always, this could be due to our network or to the person calling you withholding their phone number.

  20. Can I use a Text Relay phone with Global Telecom VoIP?

    Some Text Relay phones are compatible with Global Telecom VoIP, please contact our technical support team at support@globaltelecomvoip.com to find out if yours is one of these.

  21. Can I use a fixed public IP address for Global Telecom VoIP?

    Yes, if your ISP provides you with multiple IP addresses.

  22. What codecs does Global Telecom VoIP support?

    Different codecs will require different amounts of bandwidth. We currently support G711 and G729. The G729 codec requires less available bandwidth.

  23. Can I call other people who are using a different VoIP provider?

    You will not be able to call them using their VoIP user names, i.e. On Net, but you will be able to call them on their VoIP phone number. Your call will be routed via the public telephone network and you will be charged the relevant rate for the call. Your calls to other Global Telecom VoIP customers will always be FREE!

    No, you will receive one monthly bill by email including charges for both services.

  25. What is VoIP?

    VoIP, or Voice over Internet Protocol, converts the voice signal from your telephone into a digital signal that travels over the internet then converts it back at the other end so you can speak to anyone over the Internet

  26. Can I take my Global Telecom VoIP phone number to another service provider or bring you one of theirs?

    Global Telecom VoIP cannot currently accept, or move, phone numbers at this time.
